Steps to Writing A Scholarship Winning Essay

In addition to other documents required from applicant, writing an essay is also required when applying for a scholarship.

This is to test how best you can express yourself in a clear and concise way and also how passionate you feel about a particular subject. Writing essays can throw some people off balance especially the science inclined who are all about laws and equation.

The power of research cannot be over emphasized. Even if you feel you already have an idea of the topic you have been given to write about, research will most definitely give you more if not better ideas which will help you write confidently as you now have more points to develop.

Most readers have a short attention span and most times start reading a piece of writing by glancing though it. So you have to make sure to write a strong introduction in your first paragraph to capture their attention and keep it. It is important to also keep the attention because capturing it is not enough.

Write your opinion about something and be able to defend it as well. For example when asked “How do you hope to have an impact on the world?” you don’t have to bring in your choice of program when answering as most people would, try going deeper and more explorative when writing.

Write about what you are passionate about, something original and personal, not what
you lifted up from a book or article.

There is a thin line between the definition of self-esteem and self-confidence, so also there are topics that look similar and you might end up confusing one with the other. Try understanding the topic before you writing about it, so you don’t end up with 1000 wrong words.

Most essays have word limits which you are not expected to go over or under.

You can write with your word document before transferring it to your application form just to be extra sure.

Sometimes you might be tempted to show how sophisticated or intellectual you are all in the bid to impress the essay scholarship reader and may end up writing about things which has nothing to do with the essay topic. So avoid this by concentrating on the topic only and writing according to it.

While you must have used your mental capacity to write a strong introduction, an intriguing body essay, please do not give a weak conclusion because you want to stop writing and do better things with your life. What is worth doing is worth doing well.

Let your conclusion be even more interesting and accurate than the preceding paragraphs as this is what would leave a lasting emotion in the mind of the reader.

This is meant to be a top-notch essay, an “academic paper” if I am permitted to write as no one would part with so much money for a mediocre essay. So take your time to check for spelling errors, incorrect punctuation or wrong word usage.
