Southeast Asia’s major telecom has released a new Skype and WhatsApp challenger/competitor called Wavee
Singtel, Southeast Asia’s major telecom with more than 500
million subscribers, has released a new Skype and WhatsApp challenger/competitor
called Wavee.  It
is expected to be presently available, if not already existing on iOS and
Android. Wavee lets users make voice and video calls and
send instant messages.

Unlike whatsapp whose features are limited to some extent,  It also has several features more commonly
seen in messaging apps, like the ability to share your location, photos and
videos from your camera reel, sketch tools (so you can draw on photos or a plan
background before sending them), and stickers.  Unlike Skype, Wavee lets users send each other
files and text messages while on a voice call.
Users of Wavee’s Android app can also decide to send their
SMS messages unswervingly to Wavee’s inbox, which is an extra layer of
convenience and comfort that might lure users who are exhausted of toggling
between diverse messaging apps.  With the
increasing tussle surrounding the abreaction of Whatsapp, recentlyWhatsapp Voice Calling  was Banned in UAE, you need to read that and
come back to this post.
As with any new social or messaging app, however, Wavee not only faces the delinquent
of getting new users, but serving or helping  those people convince their friends to
download and use Wavee, apparently. Contingent to this exertion to aid in the
establishment of this app, Singtel will not charge its 500 million subscribers
local data fees for Wavee until July 9.
The application  also intends
to complement calls from Wavee to local
mobile or landline numbers in the second half of this year, this is interesting

Basic Requirement, if
you may ask…
Wavee requires a mobile phone number to sign up, which makes
it easier to invite other people to the service (and for Singtel to track who
is using the app), but will be a turn off for people who are concerned about
their privacy, this is great if I must be impartial.
This possibly will make it harder to win over Skype users,
since they don’t need to connect a phone number to use its apps. Singtel, conversely,
prorogates that Wavee will offer better quality connections than other apps, at
least for users on its telecom network, because it can detect the strength of
the network voice calls are being made on and then optimize the call so it
doesn’t get plunged. It says it will offer this feature for video calls soon.
One thing telecom observers will be tracking is whether or not the launch of
Wavee will change Singtel’s methodology and approach to Skype, WhatsApp, and
other similar services.
Recall  Last
year, the Singtel’s chief executive Chua Sock Koong reportedly said that
companies like hers should be permitted to partner with companies like Skype
and Whatsapp in order to “create sustainable revenue models,” which countless
people interpreted as meaning Singtel would charge extra fees to WhatsApp and
Skype users.
But days later, In a statement delivered afterward, however,
Singtel said that it would not charge distinct charges for third- party
services. Certainly, the telecom has plans like the WhatsApp Pass, which gives
subscribers unlimited access to the app without extra data charges and whatsapp backup which  enable its users to Backup WhatsApp Messages on Android,Symbian,Java, ios
Jaysciencetech  is in contact with Singtel  (Through twitter)  about the proposed  future of WhatsApp Pass and will bring
up-to-date this post when we catch back from them.
With its speedily increasing mobile infiltration rates,
Southeast Asia is an important growth market for services like WhatsApp, but
its position there is far from secure due to rivals like Line. If Wavee manages
to take off, it throws another challenger into the messaging/calling app wars.
I should be predicting this giant Singtel have something hidden under their
sleeve, Lets watch out
