How to Block MTN, Airtel and Other Network Operators from Sending You Unsolicited Messages

In point of fact, all
Nigerian mobile network operators provide their subscribers with great services
in form of text messages. In spite of this, many customers find it annoying
when they get messages they never requested for. As regards another reality, you
could be sent an unsolicited message
which might accidentally favour you or save you from an immediate difficulty. However
in many cases, customers get unsolicited
messages
which actually annoy them or fail to offer them useful
information.
Following an authoritative order, mobile network operators
have been forced to provide a facility that allows customers to either specify
the kinds of messages they wish to receive or simply block their various
networks from sending them all sorts of unsolicited
messages.
As contained in reports about the matter, the NCC (Nigerian
Communications Commission) maintained that such a decisive move would grant
customers the discretion to get messages based on their preference or prevent
their various networks from sending them unwanted messages.
With a view to promoting customers’ welfare, the NCC imposed
its legislation on the various mobile network operators in 2016. As implied in
the legislation, the NCC threatened the mobile operators to initiate a DND
(Do-Not-Disturb) system geared towards warding off the disappointments provoked
by unsolicited messages. In
consequence of this, all the operators came to a conclusion and eventually
decided to promote their subscribers’ welfare by complying with the NCC
regulation.
After further deliberations by the network operators, a
decision to create a DND option was reached. With this DND option, a customer can
choose his preferred service from a variety of services by simply sending an
SMS –with the number denoting his service –to 2442. Likewise, a customer can
choose not to receive any unwanted texts from his network provider.
To prevent your network provider (be
it Airtel, MTN, Glo, Etisalat, etc.) from sending you unsolicited messages,
simply follow the steps below:
–
Using the phone number you wish to activate this
service, simply create a text message containing the word “STOP’’
–
Forward the text message to 2442
NOTE: A message might be sent to you
in order to verify that your request has been received and will be activated in
the next 24 hours.
