A custom domain is a branded domain name which uniquely identifies your business on the internet. Many started their blog with a subdomain. I too started the same way. If you are really serious about your brand, it is necessary to use a custom domain.
If you are on blogger platform and you bought a domain from GoDaddy, this post will guide you on how you can do the redirection.
To begin, log into your dashboard at blogger.com
Click on Settings and click on Set up third-party URL for your blog
On the next page, add the GoDaddy domain name and click Save.
You will get an error: We have not been able to verify your authority to this domain. Error 12. You shouldn’t worry about it. What it means is that you need to add two CNAMEs to your GoDaddy domain and also add A record.
To complete the setup, go to your GoDaddy account. Click on the domain. On the next page, click on Manage DNS.
At this stage, you need to add A record. Click on ADD and choose A.
You need to add A record one after the other as shown in the screenshot below.
Add the A records below one after the other. Make sure you save after each process.
@ 216.239.32.21
@ 216.239.34.21
@ 216.239.36.21
@ 216.239.38.21
Delete the default A record, that is, the one you saw there before you begin to add the new A records. You should have the following below after you are done.
The next step is to add the CNAMEs. Click on ADD and select CNAME as seen below.
Go back to your blogger settings, copy the CNAMEs record and add one after the other as seen in the screenshots below.
Add the next CNAME record and Save.
Once you are done, go back to blogger and click on Save. After that, click on Edit
Tick that box as shown below in the screenshot and save.
If you follow the above procedures closely, you should be able to redirect your blogspot to a custom domain with GoDaddy. Your Godaddy dashboard interface may be different from what you see in this post but the settings are always the same.
If you find this tutorial useful, you can share with others who may need it.
