By “qualified customers’’, I mean there are certain requirements you must have fulfilled before you can be eligible for MTN XtraTime. - You must be an active prepaid MTN subscriber
- Your MTN SIM must have been duly registered
- You must have refunded any outstanding airtime loan
- The highest amount you can have in your main account balance is #12
- You must have a good record such as regular airtime recharge
- You must have recorded a reliable average monthly airtime purchase
Steps to Borrow Airtime from MTN
- Dial the code *606# from your MTN SIM card
- On the on-screen command, choose Request Airtime
- Choose the amount of airtime you wish to obtain
- Meanwhile, you’re required to note that every airtime loan attracts a service charge. MTN will deduct this from the amount you will receive as airtime loan.
- The service charge for every airtime loan is 15% of the loan value i.e. if you request for the airtime loan of #50, your account balance will be credited with #42.50 instead
Also, there is a limit to the amount you can obtain as airtime loan from MTN. The minimum amount is #50 while the maximum amount is #1000.So, in this list of borrow-able amounts, there are #50, #100, #200, #500 and #1000
How to Borrow Airtime from MTN, Glo, Etisalat and Airtel

Each network has a unique code for airtime borrowing.
- ON the MTN network,You can borrow airtime from MTN by dialling either *600*amount# or *600# to follow the instructions.
- ETISALAT has a similar process : On the ETISALAT network, dial *665*amount# or dial *665# and follow the instructions.
- To borrow airtime from AIRTEL follow the same simple procedure as other networks Dial *500*amount#
- GLO users are required to create a security measure for themselves before they can borrow airtime.
Step 1: Create a 4-digit PIN.
On your Glo SIM, dial *321# to create a 4-digit PIN of your choice For example 4321
Step 2: To borrow airtime from Glo; Dial *321*pin*amount# . E.g *321*4321*200#.
Things to note about borrowing airtime
- You need to constantly recharge to qualify for borrowing airtime.
- The amount you receive when you borrow airtime is less 10% service charge, i.e, if you borrow N50 you get N45.
- Once you borrow airtime. The borrowed amount will be deducted the next time you recharge your phone.
- Borrowed airtime has an expiry date. The lesser the amount, the shorter the expiry date.
- You can’t subscribe for data with borrowed airtime.
