Bill Gates, popularly known as the king of computers and the CEO of Microsoft and Bill and Melinda foundation, was born on 28 October 1955, in Seattle, Washington. As the principal founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates is unarguably one of the most influential and richest people in the world. Recent estimates of his wealth put it at US$92.2 billion (Jan. 2018); this is the equivalent of the combined GDP of several African economies, including some economies in the world. Recently he has retired from working full time at Microsoft, and has rather decided to work with his charitable foundation “The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.”

Bill Gates father William Gates Sr in his days was a senior lawyer, and his mother, Mary, served as an executive for a major bank. The family were wealthy but, remembering the challenges of the Great Depression they encouraged, they never allowed their children to stay idle but rather work harder.
At aged 13, Gates attended the private Lakeside school. It was here that Gates had his first introduction to computers. He taught himself to programme in Basic, making a simple ‘Tic-Tac-Toe’ game. Gates enjoyed the process of working with computers and arranged with a company Computer Center Corporation (CCC) to spend time on their computers – learning source code, such as Fortran, Machine Code and Lisp. In fact, record has it that Bill Gates was the first teenager to handle a computer as at then.
In 1973, Gates enrolled at Harvard, where he studied mathematics and computer science. However, Gates was more interested in pursuing his own coding, and when he saw an opportunity to found his own company, he dropped out of Harvard without finishing his course.

Bill Gates is the founder of Microsoft as earlier mentioned, and is the second richest man in the world. Gates co-founded Microsoft with Paul Allen in 1975, and it’s since then become the largest computer software company in the world.
When Bill and Paul Allen started Microsoft, they had a vision to place a computer within every home. As at that time, that vision seemed way too ridiculous.
That vision has become a reality in many parts of the world today, and personal technology is an integral part of society as at this moment.
Bill is focused about Microsoft’s work and will always be involved with the company, including his present role as a member of the board and technology advisor.
These days Bill focuses most of his time on the work he and Melinda are doing through their foundation. People are often surprised to hear him say that this work has a lot in common with his work at Microsoft.
In both cases, he gets to bring together smart people and collaborate with them to solve big, tough problems.
