About CRIN

The history of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) dates back to the 1st of December, 1964. It was established in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. It is a prominent Federal Agency in Nigeria, with its major goal, targeted at alleviating poverty in Nigeria. It is charged with the responsibility of conducting intensive research, the facilitation of improved production, and distribution of disease-free and disease-resistant cocoa both locally and internationally.

The scope of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) was expanded beyond that of the West African Cocoa Research Institute (WACRI), which includes the intensive research on Kola and Coffee, in addition to Cocoa, by virtue of the Nigerian Research Institute, Act No. 33 of 1964. The scope of the Agricultural Based Research Institute was further expanded, to include highly demanded crops like Cashew and Tea. In total, the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) has been charged with the mandate, to conduct more researches on five major crops in Nigeria.
