Behavioral Therapy

Behavioral therapy is one possible ways of treating premature ejaculation.  This therapy involves the use of squeeze technique whereby a man interrupts sexual relations whenever he notices that he is about to experience premature orgasm and squeezes the shaft of his penis with two fingers. The man or his partner may apply light pressure just below the head of the penis for about 20 seconds, let go, and then resume the sexual relation. This technique can be repeated as often as necessary. This technique enables the man to learn how to delay and gain control over ejaculation. Behavioral therapy has helped about 60% to 90% of men with premature ejaculation. This technique however, requires the cooperation of both partners.

  • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as fluoxetine (Prozac), paroxetine (Paxil) or sertraline (Zoloft)
  • Tricyclic antidepressants, such as clomipramine (Anafranil).
  • Phosphodiesterase inhibitors, such as sildenafil (Viagra), vardenafil (Levitra), and tadalafil (Cialis).
