Reasons Why I Studied Petroleum Engineering As a Profession

Recently a final year student from the Department of Petroleum Engineering decided that he wants to say something.

Guess what he was talking about? He decided to publish one of his well written essays on Jaysciencetech. Our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled.

For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to
step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers. M.Scott Peck.

Here it goes………

Petroleum engineering is the field of engineering that deals with the exploration,
extraction and production of oil.

Petroleum engineer seek out oil and gas reservoirs beneath the earth, as a petroleum engineer I will be responsible for the identification and production of hydrocarbons requiring a range.Petroleum engineering is one of the major fields in the world that witnesses rapid growth.  The high demanding energy needs in the world
has made the field full of challenges. The research in the field has gone beyond the grounds to deep down under the sea.

GROWTH IN ENERGY DEMAND WORLD WIDE SIMPLY IMPLIES THAT THE DEMAND IN PETROLEUM ENGINEERS IS IN RISE

Increasing population is the main factor of increased energy needs. There is no field where there is no use of petroleum products and hence it makes a necessity for constant recruit of engineers in such fields. I want to be a petroleum engineer because I am interested in going into the field.

THE FIELD IS CONSIDERED AS ONE
INTERDISCIPLINARY SUBJECT

I will start by studying the procedure on how hydrocarbons are produced and stored beneath the earth surface, from where i can keep studying subjects like Geology, Thermodynamics, Chemistry, Fluid Dynamics and many more.  By studying these subjects, I get the complete understanding of how oil and gases get produced.

I WILL HAVE A RANGE OF CAREER OPTIONS IN THE PETROLEUM INDUSTRY

As an engineer I want to spot and produce hydrocarbon from the ground.  This requires a number of skills that an engineer has to perform.  I can work as the part of a drilling rig which constitutes of a big team. There are many other works in the field which I can choose as a career option as long as aim in the field, but I am interesting in drilling.  I want to study petroleum engineering because of the attractive salaries.

OPPORTUNITY TO TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD
I will have the best world travel experience as an engineer in the field because
most companies go on oil exploration sprees all across the world.  As an engineer I need to be a part of the team as the company will deputes me for a trip.

Why I choose petroleum engineering is that students get absorbed in different petroleum companies before they even complete their studies.  This proves the growing demand of the specialized engineers in the field.

THE JOB IN THE FIELD HAS GOOD FUTURE WORLD WIDE
As per the reports of US Bureau of Labour Statistics the requirements in the petroleum engineering field is going o grow by 17 percent in the upcoming decade between 2010 and 2020.  This increase is indicative of the growing demand of the engineers in the near
future.  I can go for research in the field.

TECHNOLOGY CHANGES VERY FAST IN THIS FIELD WHICH IS A GOOD WAY TO LEARN THINGS

Every time a new technology is developed to spot and extract petroleum products beneath the ground.  This fact can be better assumed from the evidence that most of the world class petroleum companies are now involves in extracting petroleum from the sea and oceans.
